Mimosa Mining’s corporate affairs executive Elizabeth Nerwande has been elected new Chamber of Mines president at the ongoing Zimbabwe Annual Mining Conference, becoming the second woman to be at the helm of the mining outfit after Ella Muchemwa of RioZim.

Nerwande will be deputized by Collins Chibafa of Unki Mine and Demand Gwatinetsa of Metallon Gold.

Outgoing president Batirai Manhando said although the environment has not been that rosy for the mining sector, the future was bright for the industry.

“The mining Industry welcomed the review by the government on the Indigenization Law which has brought some clarity to investors, but general operations have been affected by the power supply and foreign currency unavailability for smooth operations.

“Of the revenue realized by the mining industry in 2018, $1 billion was spend on suppliers. We hope through continuous interactions with the government, some of the concerns will be addressed,” noted Manhando.
