Ncube, Tshabangu war in Precabe twist

Disputed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu has charmed President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF party after leading opposition lawmakers to the ruling party strongman’s Precabe farm in the Midlands province and declared there was nothing wrong with clamors from the people to have the President stay beyond 2030.

This has presented a new twist to Tshabangu’s vicious war against CCC acting president Professor Welshman Ncube with the interim secretary general seemingly having the full backing of Zanu PF in their legal battle for the control of the heart and soul of the once vibrant opposition.

Zanu PF last year resolved at its National People’s Conference to have Mnangagwa remain in office until 2030 to spearhead developmental projects he has been undertaking in the country.

Lobbyists for the 2030 agenda have credited Mnangagwa for the development in the country that include the roads rehabilitation, modernization of infrastructure, economic development among other projects.

Speaking during a tour of the Precabe Farm by lawmakers from Zanu PF and those aligned to Tshabangu in the fractured CCC, the opposition interim secretary general said as long as the people want Mnangagwa to stay, no one disputes that including those in opposition.

“I am so proud to represent the opposition,” Tshabangu said in a declarative statement on who was in control of the CCC. “The President (Mnangagwa) said the role of the opposition is to constructively criticize the ruling party so that the ruling party can stay in power and the opposition can remain in opposition.”

“We are here as a family to contest the status quo because we are Zimbabweans. If we improve your stay in power and the people of Zimbabwe are happy, let it be,” Tshabangu said to rapturous applause from the mainly Zanu PF MPs present.

Ncube and his loyal MPs were conspicuous by their absence while those still aligned to former opposition leader Nelson Chamisa were also not in attendance.

It is however the way Tshabangu charmed Mnangagwa and Zanu PF Party yesterday that has led to speculation of a potential arrangement to have a cordial working arrangement with Zanu PF and support the ruling party’s Bulawayo National People’s Conference resolution to have Mnangagwa in power until 2030.

The resolution was not opposed in Bulawayo by any Zanu PF official making it a binding resolution.

Last year, Zanu PF Politburo member and Nyanga South MP, Supa Mandiwanzira, told Zanu PF supporters in Chipinge District, Manicaland province that there was no going back on the 2030 resolution as it was agreed unopposed at the Bulawayo conference.

Mandiwanzira said the resolution was binding and Zanu PF activists were now free to chant the pro-2030 slogan without fear.

During the Sunday Precabe tour, Minister of State for Midlands province, Owen Ncube described the 2030 resolution as “Resolution Number 1.”

Tshabangu took the front row seat yesterday where he joined Mnangagwa, First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa and Ncube.

Former deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe was also present at the meeting.

Tshabangu is embroiled in a vicious fight for the control of the CCC with Professor Ncube who last week claimed to have suspended the Matabeleland Senator.

However, Tshabangu rubbished the purported suspension.
