National hero Joshua Malinga burial set for tomorrow

Joshua Malinga (79), the late member of the politburo and Special Advisor to the President on disability who was honored as a national hero by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is scheduled to be buried at the national shrine tomorrow (Friday), the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage announced yesterday.

Mourners are gathered at Number 1 Brooke Road, Richmond, Bulawayo where his body has been lying in State. The body will be taken to Large City Hall for a send off ceremony.

Thereafter,  the body was flown to Harare where it will again lie in State at Charles Gumbo Barracks from where it shall depart for the National Heroes Acre. The burial will be presided over by  President Mnangagwa.

Malinga, who passed away after battling a malignant form of prostate cancer for four years, was a former executive mayor for Bulawayo and Zanu PF politburo member.

He was once a Zanu PF district chairman for Lookout Masuku district before becoming a provincial member, Central Committee member and subsequently appointed a member of the Politburo up to the time of his death.
