Mysterious appointment of a Ukrainian intelligence service specialist

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is going to send a representative to have duties at the headquarters of the African Union.

However, the background of the candidate who is a representative of the special service is surprising.

Mikhail Ilyashenko, 38, who is scheduled for appointment, was an officer in the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian has the rank of major and held the position of consultant expert of the Foreign Intelligence Service.

He was then selected to the post of Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for relations with the African Union.

This decision by President Vladimir Zelensky looks strange and raises questions about Ukraine’s actual intentions in the African Union taking into consideration that Mr. Ilyashenko does not have the necessary education and diplomatic experience.

Time will tell whether this means the desire of the Ukrainian special services to keep the leadership of the Pan-African organization under surveillance in order to promote their interests on the continent.
