Two Alaska children who went missing last week while herding cattle in a nearby farm were found dead in a disused mining dump site.

The children, aged 13 and six years old, went to herd cattle at Stonebuyers farm, which is about a kilometre from  their homestead.

Mashonaland West Provincial  acting police spokesman, assistant inspector Ian Kohwera, told Business Times that at around 4pm, their uncle, Phineas Ruzive,21, went to look for the children, but only found the herd of cattle.

Kohwera said Ruzive informed other villagers and relatives about the incident.

A search around the area was conducted, but it was all in vain.

He said the relatives went and filed a report of missing persons at Chinhoyi Rural Police.

Kohwera said on April 22,  the children were found dead at a disused copper mining dumpsite.

“They were partly covered with sand. Police were advised and the bodies were ferried to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital Mortuary for a post mortem,” Kohwera said.

“We are still carrying out investigations,” added Kohwera.

He urged parents to monitor  their children whenever they are.

Kohwera said parents and guardians must be concerned with the safety of their children.

“As the police, we want to urge parents and guardians to value the safety of their children,” said Kohwera.
