Information Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere said the independent media has a critical role to play in nation development and hailed AB Communications for embracing modern technology while also adhering to professionalism.
Speaking during a tour of ZiFM Stereo yesterday as part of a familiarization tour, Muswere said the media should remain professional while highlighting success stories in the country.
He implored ZiFM Stereo, a subsidiary of AB Communications, to remain objective in telling the Zimbabwean story.
AB Communications own ZiFM Stereo, Hevoi FM in Masvingo, 98.4FM in the Midlands and premium business and financial weekly, Business Times.
“We understand that ZiFM Stereo is one of the key players in the country in terms of broadcasting. You have been doing extremely well and as we are familiarizing ourselves as a ministry, we are impressed by the level of technology and we appreciate it,” he said.
Muswere said the media has a role to play in the country and that should never be underestimated.
“We have a collective responsibility to entertain, educate and inform the nation in terms of what the government of Zimbabwe is doing to deliver Vision 2030,” he said.
“Much has been done and is being done to achieve Vision 2030, be it political, economic and other aspects and we need the media to tell the true Zimbabwean story.”
The Minister was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Nick Mangwana and other officials.
AB Communications Managing Director Vongai Muzenda said the media conglomerate remains ready to work with the government in promoting the image of the country and outlining achievements under the Second Republic.
