HARARE – The MDC Alliance has expelled one of its senior members Jessie Majome from the party for filing nomination papers to stand as an independent candidate for Harare West Constituency.

Majome, a lawyer by profession, has been the MDC-T legislator for  Harare West for almost a decade and was also a member of the executive during the tenure of  the party’s late leader Morgan Tsvangirai and under the new Nelson Chamisa led regime.

Majome had withdrawn from participating in the MDC primary elections against Joanna Madamombe, arguing that the elections were manipulated in Madamombe’s favour.

She then filed her nomination papers to stand as an independent in Harare West constituency, leading to her dismissal.

MDC Alliance chairperson Morgan Komichi said because Majome had stood as an independent candidate she was expelled from the party.

“If one decides to stand against the MDC alliance candidate, then he/she automatically expels himself/herself  from the Alliance as is the case with Jessie Majome,” said Komichi.

Majome confirmed the Alliance wanted to fire her, although she is yet to receive the formal communication.

“I have just been reading it on the social media, that I have been expelled from MDC and also hearing it as rumours, but I have not received any official letter from the party headquarters. I knew that there was an ultimatum was given through a letter demanding I either withdraw my nomination as an independent candidate or face expulsion. I never joined the MDC Alliance but MDC-T. I am just going to wait and see what happens. The MDC Alliance is a different persona from the MDC-T I joined,” she said.
