Zimbabwe Red Cross Society (ZRCS) humanitarian ambassador and revered sungura musician Alick Macheso is in the studio recording a song for the victims of Cyclone Idai.

Yet to be titled, the song will be in different languages that include Shona, Chewa, Sena and Portuguese as the musician tries to give the nation a picture of the situation as well as encouraging people to bring donations to the affected.

Macheso’s publicist Tichaona Makahamadze said they were finalising the  single and would announce the dates of release soon.

“As you all know, Macheso is an ambassador for the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society and we have worked closely with the organisation to make sure the victims are assisted. That song is a way of encouraging people to bring more donations so that people are assisted. We are finalising everything today and furnish you with details,” said Makahamadze.

On Saturday, the musician will be visiting the area for the second time and will shoot the video for the song.

The musician has joined several others who have released songs and donated several items for the victims.

Yesterday, government said close to 300 people had died from the Cyclone and the search for missing people is still in motion.

Meanwhile the ZRCS has also sent volunteers and experts that are engaging affected families and give them counselling.

Secretary of the organisation Maxwell Phiri said they were different teams on the ground who trying to give psycho-social support for the victims.

He was speaking yesterday as some of the trucks with donated stuff were being dispatched.

“As you can see there are toys for young people. This is a good endeavour as people have realised the need for psycho-socio support for all the ages. We have our team on the ground that is already providing such services,” he said.
