Kwesé TV removes more channels

Kwesé TV, a subsidiary of ZSE listed company Econet Wireless Zimbabwe (ECO), has quietly removed some of its international channels from its local bouquet.

Channels removed include, Fox Africa, Fox Life and CNBC Africa.

Business Times spoke to Kwesé who said that the development had nothing to do with the economy. “Having been in the African market for almost two years, Kwesé has taken time to monitor subscriber viewing habits and preferences. These insights guide Kwesé’s efforts to provide a targeted viewing experience for subscribers, a process which entails continuous content streamlining and review.

“As Kwesé continues to tailor its bouquet, various content changes will take effect which will see some channels remain on the programming line-up, while others give way for new exciting channels that we know our subscribers will enjoy.

“The bouquet reconfiguration is guided by channel performance and popularity over the past two years, and more importantly ensuring an enjoyable viewing experience for our subscribers.

“The above is independent of the 2% tax per dollar transaction, or the reintroduction of FCAs. These changes will not affect Kwesé’s pricing, and the current $18 dollar price promotion which consumers have responded positively towards,” said the broadcaster.

Kwesé TV launched in Zimbabwe in October 2017 after a fairly lengthy struggle to get their local license. The TV platform’s aggressive approach has put DSTV in a tight spot with Kwesé’s premium package costing $18 and DSTV’s premium package costing $65
