A United Kingdom-based Zimbabwean who is facing at least 10 years in jail for encouraging terrorism wept bitterly after he was found guilty and accused the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leadership of neglecting him at a time he was desperate for support.

William Chinyanga, 50, an opposition activist based in the UK was arrested by the anti-terror crack unit and charged with four counts of encouraging terrorism.

He was found guilty on two charges and now faces jail time.

An emotional Chinyanga took to microblogging site Twitter to vent his anger over alleged neglect by the opposition he subscribes to.

“I am going down alone, I am facing 10 years in jail on my own,” he said.

“l was ill-treated by the party. They did nothing to my family and what do I tell my children to say I was treated like this?”

“There is nothing to show that the party stood with me even a letter from (Nelson) Chamisa who is the president of my party to show my child that they stood with me. How is my child going to react?” he said in between tears.

“I am facing 10 years in prison and this is not a joke. This is not funny.”

In his 2019 message which was widely condemned as reckless by followers, Chinyanga called for an uprising and setting fire to buildings and service stations in Zimbabwe.

No comment could be obtained from the CCC as party spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere had not responded to Business Times inquiry by the time of going to press.
