Zimbabwe’s month-on-month and year-on-year inflation rates eased in May, according to the latest statistics released by the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) on Tuesday.
“The ZiG month-on-month inflation rate was 0.5 percent in May 2026, shedding 0.6 percentage points from the April 2026 rate of 1.1 percent,” ZimStat said.
Year-on-year inflation rate, measured by the all-items ZiG Consumer Price Index (CPI), stood at 4.4 percent in May 2026, down 0.4 percentage points from 4.8 percent recorded in April.
The data indicates a continued slowdown in price increases under the local currency regime, reflecting tighter monetary conditions and relative exchange-rate stability.
Meanwhile, the US dollar year-on-year inflation rate for May 2026, as measured by the all-items US dollar CPI, rose to 2.8 percent, gaining 0.6 percentage points from the April 2026 rate of 2.2 percent.
ZimStat also reported that the weighted month-on-month inflation rate declined to 0.4 percent in May from 1.1 percent in April.
“The weighted year-on-year inflation rate for May 2026, as measured by the all-items weighted CPI, was 3.2 percent, gaining 0.4 percentage points from the April 2026 rate of 2.8 percent,” ZimStat said.
