I’m 100% confident of regaining my seat — CCC candidate Kureva
ANESU MASAMVU
Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate for National Assembly’s Epworth constituency Earthrage Kureva is oozing with confidence ahead of the March 26 by-elections he will be back in Parliament following his recall in 2020.
Kureva told Business Times he would retain the seat.
“Chances are almost ninety-percent if not hundred, the reason being the people of Epworth have suffered in the hands of the ruling party that is reason number one. We are the only alternative in Zimbabwe and Epworth. Zanu PF has nothing new to offer and everyone is expecting CCC to change their livelihood,” Kureva said.
He bragged that he has developed the area and he wants to continue on the trajectory.
“One of the things I did was demystifying the misconception that MPs as soon as they are voted into office, they grab land and I was never involved in any land scandal which has been the norm as MPs connive with councillors. Land grabs are now a thing of the past,” Kureva said.
He added: “I also pushed for the regularisation of stands in the area, in Epworth most of the dwellers settled before they was any development, and some are resident in spaces meant for other developments that are not homes, but this was addressed when we did the regularization process and seventy-five percent of homeowners now have title deeds and this has enhanced the value of Epworth.”
Kureva says he has been observing the general feeling of the electorate.
“As we are speaking right now, I have been moving around different schools in the constituency and teachers are not available for learners, the parents are well aware of the situation and what is driving it, which is the ruling party.
“The electorate’s only hope is CCC led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa and the voting public has promised to vote for us,” he said.
The CCC candidate said a number of projects were halted when he was recalled from Parliament on October 1, 2020.
Kureva said: “Let me talk of devolution funds, if there is no one to represent an area, and goes to knock on doors, things will not move and that has been the case with Epworth constituency which hasn’t had any leader for a long time.”
Two other candidates MDC Alliance’s Zivanai Mhetu and Zanu-PF’s Zalerah Makari are also vying for the seat.
