Hwange Colliery appoints new board

HARARE- Government has proposed six nominees for the trouble Hwange Colliery board of directors a few weeks after Mines Minister Winston Chitando promised a new look board for the entity together with other parastatals falling under his Ministry.

This comes after the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy recently called for reconstitution of the Hwange board to enhance skills and drive the ailing parastatal out of the woods.

The move also comes a few weeks after Hwange CEO Thomas Makore left the company.

Close sources at Hwange told the Business Times that the nominees include former Metallon Gold CEO Alan Mashingaidze, Anna Kunda, Flora Ngwenya, Edward Mazorodze, former Zimasco services director Roger Williams and ministry of Mines director Valentine Vera.

“Necessary procedures are now being taken to give effect to these appointments,” the source said.

 A statement is being issued by the Ministry said Minister Chitando.
