Harare International Carnival postponed again

HARARE – The much anticipated Harare International Carnival that was scheduled to
kick start next Monday has been postponed indefinitely.

Zimbabwe Tousim Authority (ZTA) boss, Karikoga Kaseke, said they have postponed the event due to cholera that is still to be contained.

“We have put the carnival on hold due to the cholera outbreak. The ban on public gatherings has not been officially lifted. We have postponed it indefinitely because we don’t know when the ban will be lifted,” he said in a statement.

He, however, said the postponement of the carnival has a bearing on the event as some countries pulled out when they postponed it in July.

“The postponement has a negative impact. The postponement from October 13 to October 20 saw three countries, including Swaziland, pulling out,” he said.

Kaseke also announced businessman, Genius Kadungure, as the face of the carnival for the next three years.

He said ZTA has also partnered with his Club Sankayi in the coming additions of the festival.

Initially the fete was set for July and was postponed due the elections. This is their second time postponing.

Cholera claimed several lives in the capital and, as a result, the Zimbabwe Republic Police had banned all public gatherings in the capital until the disease is contained.
