The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany has commended the creative and artistic skills of women from Matobo district urging the project deserved to be internationally recognised as a way of economically empowering the women.

“…When I first came here, a year and a half ago, we heard about the art in Matobo district. The 13 women are producing beautiful crafts. We organising a workshop so that the public can see their talent,” Katrin Simon, the head of the cultural section at the Germany Embassy.

Phathisa Nyathi, the founder of Amagugu Heritage Centre said the women were using the knowledge which they have been taught.

“We are currently doing a programme for women in Matobo district. Where these women beautify the houses using their knowledge that was passed to them.

“The project is sponsored by the Germans. These women do these crafts using the colours in beautifying different homes.”

Nyathi said the programme will restore the Ndebele culture.

“Again Germany needs to create good relations with other countries.

They chose us because we had already been in the programme. Now they

are mixing their knowledge between Zimbabwean culture and German

culture.

“This will restore our culture as the Ndebele people by the way they will do their skills. This will ensure the knowledge of the cultural background of the Ndebele people.

These women will be empowered as it gives them an opportunity to be

financially secure, “he said.
