Gain Cash and Carry has expanded its wholesale outlets across the country to 63 branches from 54 in the past five years, an executive has said, as it spreads its tentacles.

The official said Gain Cash and Carry has grown its range and introduced different suppliers for different categories and has also extended its range into hardware with two outlets in Gweru and Lytton, Harare.

“We have relocated some of our stores to ideal sites and rebranded them and upgraded the ambience of the stores. We have restructured our branches working towards ideal structures, recruiting staff members with the correct skills set to manage and run our branches – staff complement has almost tripled,” the official said.

Gain Cash and Carry was established in 2016 when Zimbabwe Stock Exchange-listed National Foods exited the wholesale business.

The company took over the existing National Foods distribution depots, which allowed Gain to immediately start trading as a fully-fledged wholesale outlet.

In 2020, Gain Cash and Carry established innovative shopping services including ordering via WhatsApp, Click & Collect shopping online, and drive through collections for grocery.

Since inception, the wholesale chain has managed to penetrate the retail and wholesale market that has been controlled by only three big players.
