In line with its commitment to expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare in Zimbabwe, First Mutual Health Services has officially opened the Mutare Clinic a modern, integrated facility designed to meet the growing needs of the Mutare community.
The recently opened clinic marks another milestone in First Mutual Health Services’ ongoing expansion strategy, bringing essential primary healthcare services closer to communities outside Harare.
Speaking at the official launch, Mutare District Medical Officer, Dr David Muchiriwesi, commended First Mutual for its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in Zimbabwe, particularly in a challenging economic environment. “The opening of this clinic is both timely and significant as it aligns with the Government’s Vision 2030 of achieving an upper middle-income economy. Access to quality healthcare is fundamental to building a sustainable and productive society,” he said.
“I applaud First Mutual Health Services for its resilience and sustained investment in healthcare as such initiatives play a vital role in complementing Government efforts. Facilities like this ensure that communities have access to essential health services and contribute significantly to improving healthcare outcomes. Good health is the foundation of strong families, productive communities, and prosperous nations. It is our collective aspiration to build a healthcare system that empowers individuals to actively participate in managing their own health rather than being passive recipients of care”, he added.
The new facility offers a comprehensive range of services, including vaccinations, health screenings, and treatment for chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol. It also caters for common illnesses and minor injuries, including colds, flu and urinary tract infections. In addition to primary healthcare services, the clinic houses dental and optometry units, as well as a fully stocked pharmacy, creating a convenient one-stop healthcare centre for patients.
First Mutual Health Services General Manager, Mr Wellington Madya, said the establishment of the clinic reflects the organisation’s commitment to transforming healthcare delivery. “At First Mutual Health Services, our goal is to make healthcare more proactive, integrated and personalised. Through facilities such as this one, we are strengthening our ability to deliver convenient, quality healthcare solutions that truly reflect our commitment to care,” he said.
Mutare Clinic is part of a broader national expansion drive aimed at improving accessibility and convenience for both members and the wider community. “Our presence now spans multiple locations across the country, including Harare and Bulawayo, and we continue to grow. These developments reflect our commitment to ensuring that healthcare is accessible, responsive and aligned with the needs of the communities we serve,” said Mr Madya.
The clinic is equipped with modern consultation rooms, observation facilities and treatment areas, supported by an experienced medical team capable of stabilising critical patients before referral to specialised institutions.
Beyond infrastructure, First Mutual Health Services continues to demonstrate its commitment to community wellbeing through various wellness initiatives, including free medical outreach programmes across the country. The Mutare Clinic represents more than just a new facility, it signals a step forward in reimagining healthcare delivery in Zimbabwe. With a focus on integration, accessibility and quality, First Mutual Health Services is positioning itself as a key partner in building a healthier nation.
As Zimbabwe moves towards Vision 2030, initiatives such as these highlight the critical role of public-private collaboration in ensuring that healthcare is not a privilege, but a fundamental right for all.
