HARARE – Fidelity Life Assurance Ltd (FLA) will invest $10 million on off-site water works at Southview Park.

The development comes at a time when the life assurance concern was up in arms with its residents for lack of adequate water services at the site.

FLA general manager marketing Melanie Gumbo told the Business Times that the company will provide off-site water by December to help residents to build their structures.

Gumbo said off-site works resumed on July 1 2018 and negotiations are underway with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe to ensure that foreign currency for off-site materials is available.

“Fidelity Life has completed its on-site works and now embarking on off-site works. We have already used a total of $3million and a further $7milion is needed to complete the worksFidelity Life has undertaken to complete these works by December 2018. Already the works are at 35percent completion status,” Gumbo said.

“The major challenge on the project is the availability of foreign currency as the 9km 450mm water pipe, steel, water pumps and other equipment need to be imported.”

She said City of Harare has the responsibility of installing off-site infrastructure as per the provisions of the Urban Councils Act, but was incapacitated due to financial challenges.

The off-site water works for the company consists of a 9km water line to the nearest City of Harare connection point, a 10 mega litre ground reservoir and a fully-equipped water pump station.
