President Emmerson Mnangagwa has fired Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister Energy Mutodi.

The termination of employment is with immediate effect, in terms of Section 108 (1a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe (Amendment Number 20) of 2019.

Mutodi becomes the second Minister to be fired in President Mnangagwa‘s government following the sacking of Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare former Minister Prisca Mupfumira last year over corruption allegations.

Permanent Secretary, Presidential Communications Regis Chikowore confirmed the sacking of the Deputy Minister and former rhumba musician in a letter on Wednesday.

“The Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda has announced the termination of employment by President Mnangagwa of Energy Mutodi as Deputy Minister,” Chikowore said in the letter.

Mutodi has in the past engaged in various public spats with his superiors in government including his Minister Monica Mutsvangwa and Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo.

At one time Mutodi claimed on Twitter handle that his life was under threat from Minister Moyo and former Presidential Advisor Christopher Mutsvangwa.
