Delta launches Leopord Extra

Zimbabwe’s largest brewer, Delta Corporation, has unveiled Leopard Extra, a new opaque beer brand, marking a bold push into Zimbabwe’s traditional beer segment as the beverages giant accelerates efforts to premiumise its portfolio.

The product was launched at the Mandel Training Centre, signalling Delta’s intent to reposition traditional brews for a more aspirational, modern consumer while retaining deep cultural roots.

Positioned as a premium “Special” variant within the Chibuku stable, Leopard Extra is marketed as “the beer with the BITE”, a smooth yet robust brew crafted from sorghum, Africa’s traditional grain.

Delta Beverages Group Treasurer, Tumai Mafunga, said the new offering reflects the evolving identity of traditional beer consumers.

“Traditional beer has always been about connection and bringing people together to mark moments and strengthen communities,” Mafunga said. “Leopard Extra is grounded in heritage but designed for the modern African, aspirational, relevant and accessible.”

The launch underscores Delta’s broader strategy to extract more value from its opaque beer segment by introducing higher-margin, differentiated products in a market historically driven by affordability and volume.

Delta, Zimbabwe’s largest beverages producer, commands a dominant market share across multiple categories, with a diversified portfolio that includes lager beers such as Castle, Zambezi and Eagle, traditional brews under the Chibuku range, and soft drinks produced under its Coca-Cola franchise.
