Council approves high-rise Millennium Heights project

Harare City Council has approved the high-rise residential apartments construction that will see the kick start of the development of 10 storey cascading apartments at Millennium Heights in Borrowdale West.

The city’s approval of the project, observers say, is in line with the government’s calls for high-rise apartment development that brings a lot of advantages including saving space and bringing a “Dubai look” to Zimbabwe.

Minutes of the July full council meeting shows that the local authority was ready for the project that is set to decorate the Borrowdale West skyline.

The permit approves the development of two additional five-storey and two 10-storey cascading apartments on the remainder of 19829 Harare Township.

The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has already given a nod.

Government is on record urging local authorities to push for the approval to construct skyscraper apartments following initial resistance by some councils who limit developers to less than four floors.

Development of high-rise buildings save on land and allow more people to stay in one area making it cheaper to provide services like water, electricity and road infrastructure.
