Fadzai Chisveto, has made football history, after she was appointed chairperson of the country’s power utility’s sponsored team, Kauya Katuruturu as ZPC Kariba Football Club is affectionately known in the resort town over 300 kilometres North West of Harare, becoming the first woman to achieve such a historic feat in the history of Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer league.

Chisveto, a public relations executive at the country’s integrated power generation company, the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), will now be a treasured example of young  ladies as the face of the company’s football club, succeeding, Tungamirai Mazarire, who held the position for the past three years.

“It’s a task and a half (to be chairman of a football club) but we will hit the ground running,” Chisveto told Business Times on Tuesday after accepting the new role.

The shakeup at the club also saw Robson Chikuri, who was the club’s board of governors chairman, resigning from the post. He is now the acting managing director of the company. Kenneth Maswera, was appointed chairman of the board of governors. Maswera, is now the company’s acting operations director. Prior to that, he was general manager at Kariba South Hydroelectric Power Station.

The chances of a woman becoming a Premier Soccer League football club chairman were almost nil, until Chisveto, who was previously the club spokesperson, earned her place in the history books to oversee and influence over the Gwenya rekuchamhembe (Kariba South hydro Power Station), as ZPC Kariba Football Club are also known and becoming the first woman chairman of a local Premier League club

Another prominent or influential woman is reigning champions FC Platinum spokesperson, Chido Muzondo.

Chisveto, holds a Bachelor of Applied Communications Management from Fort Hare University, South Africa and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, ZPC Football Club, last week sacked assistant coach Mabelo Njekwa, while the contract of team manager, Kennedy Nagoli was not renewed. Head coach Godfrey Tamirepi’s contract, was renewed by another year.
