Chikunguru appointed ZBC chief executive officer

STAFF REPORTER

State broadcaster, ZBC, has appointed corporate executive Adelaide Chikunguru as new CEO with effect from this month.

An announcement is expected this week, sources told Business Times.

No comment could be obtained from board chairman Dr Josaya Tayi as he had some engagements: in a lecture, attending to a patient or driving.

But the broadcaster told employees Tuesday that veteran journalist Robson Mhandu would be acting CEO until further notice.

Until her appointment, Chikunguru was corporate executive at Tongaat Hulett. She has also worked for Mike Hamilton Public Relations Consultants, NetOne and had and a four-year stay at Ogilvy & Mather (Tanzania) as a general manager.

She has a Bsc and MSc degrees in Media Studies and Society Studies.

ZBC has been operating without a substantive CEO following the sacking of then head Patrick Mavhura in 2019. The broadcaster appointed Wisdom Hombarume as acting CEO but his tenure ended after six months.

The board then seconded board member Helliate Rushwaya as the acting CEO. She left the broadcaster last month.
