CGI indaba kicks off in SA

CLOUDINE MATOLA IN JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA

The Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe (CGI) kicks off its annual conference in South Africa today, bringing together policymakers, regulators and governance professionals for three days of discussions on how stronger institutions, ethical leadership and sustainable business practices can support Zimbabwe’s economic ambitions.

The flagship conference, being held at Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg, Johannesburg, runs under the theme “Better Governance, Better Future” as CGI seeks to deepen its regional presence and align Zimbabwean governance practices with international standards.

The move comes as Zimbabwean companies increasingly look beyond the domestic market for capital, partnerships and growth, placing a premium on transparency, accountability and credible corporate governance.

Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube is expected to address the conference, underscoring the growing intersection between governance, investment and economic development.

The speaker line-up includes Auditor-General of Zimbabwe Commissioner Vimbayi Chikwenhere; South Africa’s Deputy Auditor-General Sibongiseni Ngoma; Public Accountants and Auditors Board (PAAB) secretary Donald Mangenje; PAAB chairman Valentine Mushayakarara; Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA) chief executive Alta Prinsloo; Minerva managing director Lydia Tanyanyiwa; and API chief executive Evans Mulera.

Other speakers include Munyaradzi Gwatidzo, Carolynn Chalmers, Stephen Sadie and Precious Murena.

The conference is expected to provide a platform for discussions on practical governance reforms, institutional accountability and the role of professional standards in strengthening investor confidence and supporting sustainable economic development.

For CGI, taking its flagship conference beyond Zimbabwe is also part of a broader push to forge stronger regional and international links and position the institute within the wider African governance and accountancy landscape.
