Cabinet has approved the national priorities that will shape the formulation and execution of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), setting the stage for Zimbabwe’s next five-year economic blueprint.

Information Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere confirmed that NDS2, running from January 2026 to December 2030, will be the country’s second medium-term plan, following the conclusion of NDS1 (2021-2025) in December next year.

“Cabinet considered and approved the National Priorities for the National Development Strategy 2, as presented by Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube. NDS2 will be the Second Republic’s next five-year economic roadmap, advancing Zimbabwe towards its Vision 2030 targets,” Dr. Muswere said.

Dr. Muswere outlined the 10 key national priorities that will underpin NDS2, including macroeconomic stability and financial sector deepening, inclusive economic growth and structural transformation, infrastructure development and housing, food security, climate resilience, and environmental protection and technology, innovation, and human capital development.

Others are job creation, youth empowerment, and the creative industry, social development and social protection, regional development and inclusivity through devolution, international diplomacy, trade, and national image-building and good governance, institutional strengthening, and security

He emphasized that these priorities are designed to optimize resource allocation, strengthen sectoral coordination, and ensure a targeted approach to economic development. A broad-based consultative process will guide the re-alignment of Thematic Working Groups, leading to the drafting and launch of NDS2 by October 2025.
