Business Times scribe scoops awards

BUSINESS WRITER

BUSINESS Times reporter Phillimon Mhlanga, last week bagged two awards at the Insurance and Pensions Commission annual awards, underlining the publication’s status as a force to reckon with since it hit the streets last year.

Mhlanga was the best Pensions Journalist in 2019 and the first runner up in the Insurance and Pensions Industry Economic Contribution Journalist of the Year 2019. He also won the Pensions Journalist of the Year Award in 2018.

He walked away with certificates, a trophy and cash prizes at an awards dinner held in the capital last Thursday. The annual awards, organised by the insurance sector regulator, aim at honouring journalists who show exceptional grasp and interrogation of the insurance and Pensions issues in the media throughout the year.

The awards bring Mhlanga’s journalism accolades to 14.

“It’s such a blessing to do the kind of work that I am doing. And, when such a validation comes along, it makes the hard work worthwhile,” Mhlanga said after receiving the awards, adding the recognition of his work would spur him to work harder.

“These awards belong to the whole AB Communications family, meaning winning these two awards this year would not have been possible without the inspiration I received from my editors, managers and fellow journalists in the newsroom. I owe them a debt of gratitude.”
