BREAKING: Party heavyweights dump Mujuru

SIMBA RUSHWAYA

National People’s Party heavyweights Dzikamai Mavhaire and Samuel Sipepa Nkomo have deserted the party which is led by former vice-president Joice Mujuru.

Sipepa Nkomo has defected to Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance while Mavhaire resigned in his correspondence to Mujuru. Sipepa Nkomo will be joined by former NPP spokesman Jefferson Chitando at the main opposition outfit MDC Alliance.

In a letter dated 11 September 2018, Mavhaire writes: “I hereby resign from the National People’s Party as national chairman and member of the party. It was a pleasure working together as a team.”

Sipepa Nkomo has since returned to the main opposition MDC Alliance, who on Tuesday made several changes to their structures as Chamisa formally re-united with other principals of the MDC Alliance.

MDC president Welshman Ncube bounced back as the vice-president where he will share the same position with Elias Mdzuri and former national chairman Morgen Komichi.

Tendai Biti, who was the leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is now the deputy national chairperson, while Thabitha Khumalo assumes the chair’s position. Douglas Mwonzora remains the party’s secretary general.
