The Zimbabwe Women Micro Finance Bank has provided cash and business tools to women in Makonde district, Mashonaland West Province, Business Times can report.

The women received sewing and peanut butter-making machines, among other business tools, after undergoing a two-day financial literacy seminar in Chinhoyi courtesy of the bank.

“I am into chicken rearing, I can now buy enough feed for my chickens,” one of the beneficiaries only identified as Mombeshora said.

Another beneficiary added: “We are grateful, we have gathered here for a women empowerment programme. We have benefited from financial literacy training, women have also received sewing machines and those who are into peanut butter have received their machines. Women are no longer going to be idle.”

Deputy Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Jennifer Mhlanga noted that financial inclusion of women is key in the country’s quest to attain an upper middle income society by 2030.

“We now understand how to do business; businesses will help you to transform your lives for a better living as we speak of vision 2030. These projects will help us to fulfill our aspirations as a country,” Mhlanga said.
