Banks have donated ZWL$6.7m worth of reusable face masks and test kits pledging to inject more resources as they help the government step up the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The donation on Tuesday was done virtually by the sector’s body, Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ) to Local Government and Public Works acting minister Jenfan Muswere.

The donated items include 102,000 reusable face masks and5,814 test kits.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, BAZ president Ralph Watungwa said the donation was in addition to the help individual member organisations have made through the CSR initiatives and in collaboration with other cooperating partners which started at the onset of the pandemic in early 2020.

“Banks continue to mobilise resources against this fight and are committed to win this battle at the earliest opportunity which will see our economy regain its feet and benefit its citizenry and the global economy at large,” Watungwa said.

“It is our wish that the items be distributed across all 10 provinces given the spread of the banking sector client base.”

The lockdown was recently extended to February 15 in which non-essential businesses and the informal sector have been banned from opening.
