Allies ditch Chamisa

Former opposition leader Nelson Chamisa’s allies have come out to dismiss him in their new scheme saying the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) under him had swayed from democratic principles.
Chamisa resigned as CCC leader citing infiltration leading to different factions emerging, one led by Jameson Timba and the other led by Welshman Ncube.
The Ncube-led faction met in the capital, Harare, yesterday with key allies of the former party leader Nelson Chamisa notably Chalton Hwende, Happymore Chidziva, Lynnette Karenyi-Kore among others in attendance.
This, observers say, confirmed that Chamisa has lost key of his former allies.
Ncube said the opposition under Chamisa had swayed from principles.
“CCC under Chamisa swayed,” Ncube said. “There was little democracy in the party.”
“We are a collective group of people where we have to serve the needs of the people collectively, not individualism,” Ncube said.
“We are now focused on the electoral processes, not the results of the elections. We are seeking to re-engage with the government on other issues which our fellow leader failed to re-engage with the state,” said Ncube.
Addressing journalists, CCC spokesperson Jacob Mafume, who is also Harare Mayor, said the party was engaging Sengezo Tshabangu, who has been leading a series of recalls of elected officials aligned to Chamisa to map the way forward as he is not the party secretary general as he purported.
“Yes, we know Tshabangu, but he was not the Secretary-General. We will need to communicate with him on his latest post and development,” Mafume said.
