Zinara sheds off ‘bad boy’ image

Parliament has hailed the Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (ZINARA] for transforming from being a “problem child” and a haven of criminals into a transparent entity under the new board and its executive.
Zinara was previously known as a haven for looting with looters spoiling themselves with huge board allowances and entering in deals for personal gain.
The Dr George Manyaya chaired team appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chaired by Kuwadzana Member of Parliament Chalton Hwende where the team was showered with praises.
“Zinara was a problem child as spelt out in our report,” Hwende said. “There were several issues they were supposed to report on in terms of corporate governance that were not being adhered to. We are very happy that out of the 68 flagged issues, there are now only three that are remaining and the two, they satisfied the committee with their response so we will follow-up on issues raised by the Auditor General,” Hwende said.
“You are determined to ensure there is transparency and more openness. For that we want to thank you on behalf of the Members of Parliament,” Hwende added.
Manyaya said it was pleasing that his team has consistently walked on the path of transparency and accountability.
“I am happy to report that we are bringing the transformed ZINARA,” he said.
Manyaya said those who were found on the wrong side of the law and exposed in forensic audits have since been dismissed from work while others are appearing in the courts to answer charges relating to corruption and abuse of office.
