HARARE – Industry, Commerce and Enterprise Development Minister Dr Mike Bimha will be leading a group of agriculture organisations, chief among them, Zimbabwe Agricultural Society, to Hong Kong for the First Belt and Road Agrifood and Trade Summit (ATS) taking place from June 27 to 29.

The summit which is being held under the theme; Opportunities and Challenges to The Agriculture and Food Industry under the Belt and Road Initiative is an important event to ZAS as it plays a critical role in the provision of opportunities and facilitation of linkages for agricultural development.

Minister Bimha is among only six national ministers to speak at the summit.

ZAS sales and marketing  head Cynthia Tapera said the focus at the summit will be to discuss and exchange views regarding the demand in investment and development in agriculture and the food industry, the opportunity and challenges of co-operation brought by business collaboration under the Initiative.

Tapera who is also the Chairperson for the Visit Zimbabwe Committee under the Nation Branding initiative also said that the summit  presents a unique opportunity for the country to further its re-engagement and national branding exercise.

“The summit is therefore a perfect platform to update the world on the branding work in progress. Private and public sectors are actively competing (positively) on who should have the most input and impact in re-positioning Zimbabwe for better fortunes.” she said.

ZAS seeks to achieve this through four strategic pillars which include visual pillar, narrative pillar, word pillar and link pillar.

The “visual pillar” seeks to advance the cause of agriculture through the organisation and hosting of vibrant, dynamic, insightful shows, exhibitions and expos that bring together a diverse array of stakeholders in the various value chains.

The “narrative pillar” seeks to contribute to agricultural development through the medium of conferences, discussions, education and training.

The “word pillar” seeks to advance agriculture through the medium of information, publications and various other publicity aspects.

The “link pillar” seeks to advance agriculture through the establishment, development and nurturing mutually beneficial partnerships, investments and collaboration.

Zimbabwe through the Consulate General  Hong Kong Alfred Mutiwazuka, has been invited as VIP guest to the summit and to the Opening Ceremony of the First Belt and Road International Food Expo (BRIFE) on June 27 2018.

Running under the theme “Steering World Food Industries to New Opportunities” BRIFE 2018 is the first overseas Business to Business and Government to Business food expo under the theme of Belt and Road initiative.
