ZICORBA in restructuring exercise

BUSINESS REPORTER

The Zimbabwe Commercial Rabbit Breeders Association (ZICORBA) will abolish provincial executive roles and axing of nonperforming full-time staff as it embarks on a restructuring exercise to take on current and future challenges facing the country’s nascent cuniculture industry.

Each of the ZICORBA Chapters in all the country’s 10 provinces is currently run by a seven-member executive team.

ZICORBA president, Regis Nyamakanga, told the industry’s newsletter, Bunny World, the changes would result in the reorganisation of the top echelons of the two-year-old organisation, which is the collective voice of a plethora of rabbit farmers in Zimbabwe.

The changes included the abolition of provincial executive roles and axing of nonperforming full-time staff.

The changes would be implemented over the next three months, he said.

Nyamakanga said the national executive, which is the highest decision-making body in ZICORBA in-between the Annual General Meetings of Members, came up with a raft of measures to reposition the organisation following a recent meeting.

“We resolved to dissolve our provincial executives to make the organisation nimbler and agile in dealing with an array of issues facing the cuniculture industry in Zimbabwe.  In addition, some non-performing provincial coordinators will be sacked,” he said.

At the national level, the National Executive would be reorganised and mandates for all members of the top leadership will be redrafted to include performance targets and accountability statements as well as tough sanctions for non-performers, Nyamakanga said.

The constitution of the organisation will be amended to reflect the changes and an extraordinary general meeting of members of the association will be held within the next two months to approve the constitution.

“Once the constitution is approved, elections will be held to choose a new leadership of the organisation and new provincial coordinators will be appointed to run the affairs of the 10 ZICORBA Chapters in all the country’s provinces,” Nyamakanga said.

ZICORBA has been on a drive to grow the cuniculture sector to meet the growing demand for rabbit meat in the local and foreign markets.

The association debuted at the 2022 Zimbabwe Agricultural Show, scooping 16 prizes – probably the biggest number of awards by a single organisation in the history of the show. ZICORBA also participated at the Chirumanzu District Agricultural Show and also exhibited at Masvingo and Masvingo Agricultural shows.
