ZESA owed ZiG 5.7bn
ZESA is owed more than ZiG5.7bn by consumers , resulting in the power utility cut back on electricity imports,an executive has said.
Confirming the development, ZESA Executive Chairman, Dr Sydney Gata said this would have made it difficult to pay arrears .
“The imports have however been reduced as we do not have full capacity to service the arrears. We are owed in excess of ZIG 5.7bn by several customers,” Gata said.
As of August 12, 2024, the mining industry owed the power company ZIG 684.8m , or 12% of the total debt, while industrial users owed ZESA 50% of the debt, or ZiG 2,8bn.
The amount owed by domestic consumers is ZiG84,6m (1%) while the amount owed by commercial debtors is ZiG656,99m (12%).

Farmers owe ZESA about ZiG254,7m (4%) while parastatals owe the power utility ZiG73,2m (1%).
Local authorities owe ZESA ZiG577,9m (10%). Other consumers owe the balance.
