Dr. Tinashe Manzungu, the president of the Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZBCA), has said local contractors are prepared and committed to collaborate closely with other contractors during the upcoming SADC Industrial Week and summit.
The SADC Industrialization Week 2024 will take place in Zimbabwe from July 28 to August 2. During the investment conference period, 150 firms and at least 300 guests are anticipated to be in Zimbabwe. The SADC summit is set to take place between August 9–18, 2024.
Speaking to journalists this week, Dr. Manzungu stated that partnerships were essential to moving the nation forward toward the national agenda.
“We are looking forward to joining hands with our fellow comrades and colleagues from SADC countries going forward,” Dr Manzungu said.
He added: “To say, for example, in South Africa we have Master Builders, that is an association of contractors. We also have the construction industry board from Mozambique, Seychelles, Madagascar, Namibia, Zambia and so forth. We are saying as ZBCA this is something that we have never done and going forward we are saying, horizontal communication, horizontal feeding within the lines of SADC will help us leapfrog towards our national agenda of the 2030 vision that we have as a country.
“So, in simple terms as ZBCA we are also feeding into the national agenda.
So, exchange programs will also be key within the SADC discussions where contractors will also visit other countries and vice versa to improve on construction processes.”
He also said the ZBCA is going to join the SADC association of construction.
“Lateral networking is one of our key mandates as an association. We are talking to both local, regional and international like-minded associations.”
