HARARE – Two victims of the Bulawayo Zanu PF rally explosion have succumbed to injuries sustained during the incident. Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa confirmed to Business Times that the victims (names withheld) died in Bulawayo and that three, of the 16 admitted in hospital, were in critical condition.

“We have had since yesterday 16 patients still admitted at Mpilo hospital and three were critical cases and one of them had his bowels blown out and an injury in the right leg where he lost his limb completely. We have lost that individual and another… we are sorry about it,” he said.

Zanu PF spokesperson Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said all party programmes would go ahead as planned despite a suspected attempt on President Emerson Mnangagwa’s life.

“This is a security matter and the security networks are there to do their work,” he said.

President Mnangagwa was on Monday quoted as saying the explosion and attempt on his life in Bulawayo would not stop the elections in July.

Vice President Retired General Constantino Chiwenga also said no Zanu PF rally will be called off as a result of the attack.

The attack left several people injured including Vice President Kembo Mohadi, party national chairperson Oppah Muchinguri, Vice President Chiwenga’s wife, Mary and several others injured.
