World class football legends match to market Zim tourism destination

HARARE – Zimbabwe is set to host a soccer match between world class football legends and local legends, an encounter set to market the local tourism destinations.

The match will feature world class players like former Real Madrid duo of Julio Baptista and Roberto Carlos. Other legends to grace the game include Brazilian World Cup Winning goalkeeper Dida and Arsenal legend Robert Pires

Dynamos and Highlanders will curtain raise.

World Class legends Zimbabwe representative Tichaona Mawoni said the match was part of various initiatives to market Brand Zimbabwe to the world.

“This engagement is not just a soccer match but the idea is to market our country leveraging on the fame of the legends. These legends’ social media presence alone is an aspect that we can capitalise on to market the nation,” said Mawoni.

He said global media houses like Real Madrid TV and Manchester United TV are set to beam the match live on their networks.

As part of the engagement, the World Class legends will tour several tourism destinations in the country.

Kaseke said tourism is at the centre for the Zimbabwe Is Open for Business agenda.

“No one can visit a country where there is no peace and we have remained peaceful country. Peace is our unique selling point and investors want to put their money where there is peace.

“Tourism is the trump card for economic development going into the future,” said Kaseke.

Kaseke said he is expecting Highlanders and Dynamos to field their strongest teams and negotiations are underway to sell the idea to Treasury for funding.

He said there is a South African sponsor who has agreed to pay for the world class legends.

“Government has appointed us to market this destination and we will do that while also listening to the media.”
