Vice President Kembo Mohadi says the Excellence Awards are not merely a celebration of innovation in the ICT sector but “a key driver of Vision 2030”, underscoring their role in accelerating Zimbabwe’s transformation into a modern, competitive, and inclusive digital economy.
Speaking at the Zimbabwe ICT Excellence Awards 2025 hosted by The Business Times in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Vice President Mohadi, represented by Minister of Youth Empowerment Tinoda Machakaire, said recognising and promoting excellence in ICT is central to national development.
“Excellence requires us to set high standards and continuously push the boundaries of what is possible,” Mohadi said, stressing the transformative power of innovation across both public and private sectors.
He highlighted the role of structured management frameworks, including Total Quality Management, Lean Six Sigma, and Excellence Awards models, which provide organisations with the tools to achieve operational efficiency, enhance customer satisfaction, and build long-term sustainability.
He said excellence in government services remains fundamental, noting that accountability, improved service delivery, and citizen engagement are essential pillars of an effective public sector.
Conversely, he said private enterprises that embed excellence within their operations stand to gain competitiveness, stimulate innovation, and contribute significantly to national prosperity.
“By striving for excellence, private enterprises can play a significant role in driving economic growth and ensuring ethical practices,” he added.
The ICT sector, Mohadi noted, is especially critical to Zimbabwe’s economic future, as excellence in ICT strengthens digital infrastructure, improves accessibility, and enhances inclusivity, enabling individuals and businesses to thrive in a fast-changing global digital landscape.
Expounding on the broader societal benefits, he said individuals enjoy improved service quality and product reliability, organisations attain increased efficiency and profitability, and communities experience real social and economic progress when excellence becomes a standard.
Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Tatenda Mavetera echoed these sentiments, emphasising that the ICT sector is a crucial pillar in the attainment of Vision 2030 and that collaboration is indispensable.
“…we continue the tradition, celebrating both continuity and progress while acknowledging the growing impact of ICT on healthcare, education, finance, and service delivery, all of which enhance the lives of our ordinary Zimbabweans and contribute to national prosperity,” she said.
