A new training centre has been officially commissioned in Mhondoro, Mubaira constituency, as part of efforts to empower youth through practical skills and enterprise development.
The Africa Development Mission Training Centre aims to transform local resources into market-ready products while aligning with the national Education 5.0 agenda.
The newly launched institution is set to play a pivotal role in transforming local talent and resources into sustainable enterprises, aligning with the national vision for industrialisation and self-sufficiency.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony last Friday, Deputy Director for Higher Education Programmes, Maria Adriano, urged the centre to collaborate with established institutions of higher learning to promote the exchange of knowledge and best practices.
“The establishment of this training centre marks an important milestone for Mhondoro,” she said. “It is not just a learning space—it is a launchpad for young people to transform their environment by turning local resources such as soils, crops, livestock, culture, and identity into valuable products and thriving businesses.”
Adriano called on the community to reimagine the Mubaira Growth Point as a dynamic industrial and service hub that produces quality local goods for national consumption. “Imagine a Mhondoro known for producing quality bricks, peanut butter, shoes—products that meet national demand. That is the power and promise of Education 5.0,” she added, referencing Zimbabwe’s education model that fuses teaching, research, innovation, and industrialisation.
Principal of the training centre, Mrs Shingirirai Chizanga, highlighted the institution’s mission to support the national agenda of developing a generation of skilled, self-reliant citizens.
“This is a groundbreaking initiative,” Chizanga said. “We are offering various vocational programmes tailored to empower young people with practical skills. From baking and professional cookery to short courses that promote income generation, our goal is to help communities become economically independent.”
She revealed that the centre plans to expand its curriculum to include subjects such as pastoral studies, motor mechanics, metal fabrication, carpentry, and travel and tourism management—broadening its appeal and relevance to local and regional labour markets.
The Africa Development Mission Training Centre is registered under the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, and its programmes are accredited by the Higher Education Examinations Council (HEXCO). It currently offers National Foundation Certificate and National Certificate qualifications.
With strong support from government and partnerships with innovation hubs and learning institutions, the Mhondoro-based centre is expected to become a model for rural transformation—nurturing entrepreneurship, driving local industry, and equipping youth with the tools to shape their future.
