Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga, has urged the private sector to join hands with the government to revive the economy.

Speaking at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair  (ZITF)  International Business Conference yesterday, Chiwenga said: “We are calling upon our private sector to join hands with the government on the development and domestication of value chains.  The priority is on moving the economy up the value chain and structural transformation by strengthening already existing and development of new value chains.”

The premier trade show kicked off on Tuesday and runs under the theme: Rethink, Reimagine and Reinvent value chains for economic development.

“The theme resonates well with the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, his Excellency Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call for re-industrialisation of our economy. As we work towards transforming our country into a prosperous and empowered upper middle class economy society by 2030, the private sector should join hands with the government, ”

Chiwenga said.

He said the developing thrust and vision is in accordance with global and regional aspirations of the Sustainable Development Goals and Africa Agenda 2063.

He said the edition of the international business conference and the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair is an opportunity for business and all stakeholders to engage and market their products as “we seek to reach wider markets against the battle of disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing Russia – Ukraine conflicts which has secondary buy through of effects on domestic and international prices”.

Chiwenga said it is important for businesses to view the Covid-19 pandemic from a positive standpoint as it provides an opportunity to innovate, rethink and reinvent business through strategies in these challenging times.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to officially open the ZITF this Friday after President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was scheduled to lead the proceedings, could not make it following the death of former Kenya’s leader, Mwai Kibaki.
