Technical faults haunt ZESA

The power utility, ZESA, is fretting over technical faults across the country that have led to depressed generation and load shedding.

Zimbabwe has witnessed renewed load shedding in the last few days with consumers saying they have been severely affected by the development as it was impacting negatively on their businesses and day to day operations.

In a statement, the power utility said there were dealing with technical faults that have hit Hwange Power Station and urged people to use the little available power sparingly.

“We would like to inform our valued customers that we are experiencing depressed generation owing to technical faults which have recently happened at Hwange Power Station,” the power utility said in a statement.

“This occurrence has resulted in increasing load shedding. Furthermore, we wish to notify stakeholders that the Hwange Unit 7, which was synchronized in March 2023, is scheduled to undergo Class C maintenance, a statutory procedure that requires the Unit to be taken off the grid after running for a defined period. This work is expected to be completed within 30 days.”

The company said it was working to ensure normalcy is restored.

“Please be assured that we are working around the clock to implement measures aimed at reducing the severity of load shedding. Valued customers are asked to use electricity sparingly.”

Last week, the company also said it was severely affected by the hailstorm that hit the country destroying infrastructure including power lines.

The company said faults in most areas would take time to attend to.
