Leading financial services institution,Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe, has donated US$10,000 to the Friends of the Environment’s 500 Million Tree Walkathon, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.
The contribution supports the walkathon’s efforts to promote tree planting across the country, as part of the organization’s goal to plant 500 million trees by 2026.
“At Stanbic Bank, we have carefully structured our CSI initiatives around key pillars of Health and sanitation, Education, Environment, as well as Sport and Arts. The 500 Million Tree Walkathon resonates with our objectives on safeguarding the environment, making us a key partner in this endeavour,” said Tariro Memo, Stanbic Bank Head of Brand and Marketing.
The donation comes a month after Stanbic Bank hosted its inaugural “Blue on Green Sustainability Forum,” aimed at raising awareness on sustainability and shaping Zimbabwe and Africa’s green future.
The Forum’s theme was “Shaping Africa’s Sustainable Future” and brought together thought leaders, regulators, and industry experts to come up with impactful solutions for Zimbabwe and Africa’s pressing sustainability challenges.
Memo emphasized that the bank’s participation in the walkathon went beyond walking, with representatives planting trees and inspiring communities along the 110km journey.
Friends of the Environment, established in 2010, has become a major private-sector player in Zimbabwe’s environmental efforts.
The organization focuses on creating awareness, establishing nurseries, and planting trees.
Stanbic Bank has been a long-standing partner, aligning with its broader Corporate Social Investment strategy to provide lasting solutions to the communities it serves.
