SMEs seek partners

The Harare Chamber of Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) is seeking partners on the construction of the proposed workspaces across the city, Business Times can report.
Chamber president Lucky Moyo said they look forward to partnering with pensioners, banks, companies like Old Mutual and local authorities.
“We challenge whoever is ready to work with us to do so, especially the local authorities. We want to be partnered in various projects and one of them is Mabvuku Tafara where we have got a huge space where we want to put our light and a bit of heavy industry,” Moyo said.
He said the chamber has space Epworth which is ready for partners to come on board.
In Kuwadzana, the association has “a place which has been there for years now”.
“At Mereki Park we managed to secure 3.6 hectares and we are looking for partners and I think right now companies like Old Mutual can come and partner with us. At Mereki we want to put a shopping mall,” Moyo said.
The current state of SME workspaces especially the informal traders is unstructured and many operate in substandard shells which lack the basic things such as toilets and running water.
The Government in its National Development Strategy 1 pledged to construct decent workspaces for SME as one of the key strategies to support their operations.
