Seed Co donates sanitary kits
STAFF REPORTER
Zimbabwe’s largest seed producer, Seed Co Limited, on Tuesday donated sanitary kits to Unlimited Hope Alliance in Harare as part of its corporate social responsibility programme to help the disadvantaged in society.
Speaking at the donation, Seed Co non-executive director Remina Chitengu said the company’s policy aims to bring transformation to lives.
“This donation is intended for young girls in rural areas that are vulnerable and with no access to sanitary wear. Our aim as an organisation is to ensure communities, farmers, and the girl child are protected,” Chitengu said.
“Access to sanitary wear is every child’s right and Seed Co is playing its part to ensure communities and the girl child is protected.”
She said Seed Co aims to ensure that it plays its part to prevent the girl child from becoming another statistic and hence moves to prevent and minimise cases of early child marriages and pregnancies, drug abuse, and poverty.
Chitengu said a company should give back to society as it makes it possible for the company to continue to be named “Home of Bumper Harvests.”
“We recognise the efforts brought about by institutions such as Unlimited Hope Alliance, and we are here as Seed Co to augment your efforts and assist where we can.
“We have over the years adopted various strategies in an effort to bridge the gap between those who have more and those who have less.
“Our CSR activities are based on merit and need. Our approach to CSR has been to focus on promoting health and wellness, education, sports and culture, and also agriculture,” Chitengu said.
She said over the years, Seed Co has worked with various institutions such as the ones here with us and many others such as children’s homes, churches, hospitals, schools and rural and urban disadvantaged communities.
Seed Co continues to make efforts to bring sustainability across the board.
The seed producer increasingly aims to not only feed communities but to also resource them.
