Renowned lawyer Moyo dies

Sternford Moyo, a former president of the Law Society of Zimbabwe and the first African to hold the position of president of the International Bar Association, has died.

The renowned lawyer was chairman and senior partner of Scanlen and Holderness, one of Zimbabwe’s oldest and largest law firms in Zimbabwe, which he joined in 1981.

His death was confirmed by the Law Society of Zimbabwe.

In a statement, the Law Society of Zimbabwe said: “It is with a heavy sense of grief and loss that the Law Society of Zimbabwe informs you of the untimely passing on of former president Sternford Moyo.

“Mr Moyo represents a rare breed of legal practitioners and business leaders who have blazed a trail on the global stage. The legal profession and Zimbabwe as a country have lost one of its luminaries in the field of law as well as business administration.”

Moyo also served on several boards including as chairman of Delta Corporation, Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe and Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited and the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, among other numerous posts.
