Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe, operators of the Arcadia Lithium Mine, is set to commission its first lithium production line in January 2026, marking a historic milestone in Zimbabwe’s lithium beneficiation efforts.

“The first line is scheduled to go into production in January 2026, with the second and third lines scheduled for April 2026,” Information and Publicity Minister Jenfan Muswere confirmed.

“The line is part of the company’s US$400m Lithium Sulphate Plant, currently under construction.”

Muswere said the plant is the first of its kind in Zimbabwe and Africa, incorporating cutting-edge technology for lithium sulphate production.

“Lithium Sulphate is a direct input into battery-making and has other uses in the manufacturing sector,” he explained.

He confirmed that the plant, located at Goromonzi, comprises three production lines, each with a feed of 500,000 metric tonnes per annum of concentrate.

“The plant is designed to produce 80,000 metric tonnes per annum of lithium sulphate and is set to create over 1,000 jobs,” Muswere added.

The project is expected to generate revenue of approximately US$320 million, positioning Zimbabwe to expand into electric vehicle manufacturing.

The Lithium Sulphate Plant will bolster the economy, create over 1,000 jobs, and establish Zimbabwe as a key player in the global electric vehicle industry, supporting the country’s vision for sustainable economic growth.
