Probe land sales, shadow MP tells Zacc

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) should probe land sales in Southerton Constituency, a shadow MP has said after the High Court stopped Harare City Council from parceling out residential stands on land earmarked for residential purposes.

Last month, High Court judge Justice Nyaradzo Munangati Manongwa stopped Harare City Council and the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works from pegging, allocating, selling and or changing from open space and recreation to residential use Stand 8689 Bexley Circle and Gilwell Square in Southerton. Council had approved the sale of land which resulted in the selling of 38 residential stands measuring 800 square metres for
US$45000 each.

Zanu PF shadow MP Andrew Makahamadze accused constituency MP Peter Moyo of being behind the sale of land and not following proper procedures together with other city councillors.

“I have written a letter to the police and Zacc to look into the land sales in the constituency and I have a court judgement to support my case,” Makahamadze said.

Zacc spokesperson John Makamure said: “If the letter is in our offices the matter will be looked into.”

Harare Mayor Herbert Gomba said councillors have been operating above board. He said the sale of council had been done following laid down procedures.

Moyo said: “I am not a councillor in the constituency but the MP and
the land matter is being handled by the council and I was not involved
in the land allocating and pegging of the stands in the constituency.

Makahamadze wants to involve my name because I defeated him in
the 2018 general elections.”
