The much-awaited by-elections to fill vacant parliamentary and council seats could see candidates from Zanu PF and MDC who faced each other in the 2018 elections squaring up again.

It has emerged that several candidates from the two political parties, who contested in the 2018 elections, are making a political come back in their constituencies.

Zanu PF political commissar, Victor Matemadanda said: “We are getting reports that our shadow MPs and councillors want to contest again and if they are approved by the party they will contest,” Matemadanda said.

On the other hand, MDC Alliance, has since passed a resolution that it allows all its recalled MPs and councillors to seek reelection.

MDC Alliance secretary general Charlton Hwende confirmed the development saying: “We are not going to have primary-elections in the constituencies we had our MPs and councillors before the recalls and we are confident of winning back the seats” Hwende said.

Business Times understands that among the Zanu-PF members wishing to contest in the by elections are: Betty Kaseke (Kuwadzana), Esau Mupfumi (Chikanga Dangamvura), Taka Mashonganyika (Highfield), Kudakwashe Damson (Epworth), Godfrey Gomwe (Budiriro) and Sabina Thembani (Mufakose). Some of the candidates expected to seek reelection from the MDC Alliance include Murisi Zwizwai (Harare Central), Eric Murai (Highfield), Susan Matsunga (Mufakose), Charlton Hwende (Kuwadzana) and Earthrage Kureva (Epworth).
