OK eyes 15m entries in flagship promotion

BUSINESS REPORTER

Listed retailer OK Zimbabwe Limited is eyeing a 25% growth in entries to 15 million in OK Grand Challenge, next year riding on the interest the flagship promotion has garnered over the years.

The 2023 edition had 12.1m entries this year from 10m recorded last year.

Speaking at the handover of vehicles to the 43 winners yesterday, OK Zimbabwe Limited CEO Maxen Karombo said the fact that some won is a testimony to all the “doubting Thomases that this is real”.

“The OK Grand Challenge is real and real people win with us,” Karombo said.

He promised a bigger and better OK Grand Challenge next year.

“Our marketing and supply chain teams will be working hard starting tomorrow [today] to plan for the 2024 OK Grand Challenge. It will be different. But it will be exciting. I hope you become one of the 15 million entries that we look forward to next year,” Karombo said.

Of the cars presented yesterday, 39 were sponsored by suppliers and four by OK inclusive of the grand prize Ford Ranger vehicle.

In its trading update for the third quarter ended December 31, OK’s sales volumes decreased by 11.33% for the quarter and 9.37% for the nine months to December 2022 compared to the prior year driven by declining consumer spending power.

The group said a volume recovery plan resulted in a growth of 3% being recorded for the month of December 2022 compared to the prior year.

In its outlook, the group urged authorities to provide more incentives for productive sectors to invest in growth projects and stave off current operational cost increases necessitated by power shortages and exorbitant fuel costs.
