Mutare businessman and Zanu PF central committee member Esau Mupfumi(pictured), this week offered healthcare support for the elderly and underprivileged in Mutare, Business Times can report.
At least 1 000 elderly people were on Tuesday this week offered free medical care at the Dangamvura Poly Clinic after Mupfumi’s intervention. At least 12 medical doctors attended to the patients. Mupfumi, a former MP for Chikanga Dangamvura constituency, said he approached the Ministry of Health and Child Care to help the elderly and the underprivileged.
“The call was granted,” he said.
“I found it prudent to assist the members of this community who need healthcare assistance.
“We need to change our political culture, to take care of our old people, giving political office to people who have love for the people and who do not get into political office for jobs but to help uplift the livelihoods of our people,” Mupfumi told Business Times.
Mupfumi decried the current state of affairs within the Zimbabwean politics where some political candidates get into positions of authority for political gain and self aggrandisement.
“I do not believe in politics of self-enrichment. We need to work with the people, hear what they need and together we forge ahead as a unit,” Mupfumi said.
One beneficiary, 80-year old Anna Garahwa was grateful for the assistance.
“My eye sight was really getting bad, but I am now much better after the procedures done on them,” Garahwa said.
